In vertical lathe machining, the workpiece rotates on a horizontal table while the cutting tool traverses vertically and horizontally. This makes the process ideal for large, heavy components that are too big for conventional lathes. The Ø 4,800 mm table provides an exceptional clamping area. When boring, the drilling head engages from above and limits the usable height to 2,000 mm drilling height. The height actually achievable depends on how the workpiece is clamped and supported – we are glad to advise on a project-specific basis.
With a build height of 2,400 mm, tall large components can be turned to precision tolerances. Flanges, rings and bushings for plant engineering, vehicle construction and special machinery are manufactured to drawing. CNC control ensures consistent dimensional accuracy.
The 2×25 t overhead crane system allows safe setup and positioning of heavy workpieces. Individual parts, small batches and recurring series parts are manufactured in Lorch – no minimum order quantities.
All vertical lathe operations at Bock are integrated into the wider manufacturing workflow. After turning, components can proceed directly to welding, boring mill machining, shot blasting or industrial painting within the same facility – saving logistics costs and lead time for multi-step contract manufacturing projects.
At Bock, vertical-turned parts are often used as a pre-fabrication stage for complex welded structures and special-machine components. Because turning, milling and welding work directly together in the same facility, components can be passed on without external logistics – significantly shortening lead times.
Heavy turned parts for crane and lifting-gear structures, vehicle systems and plant engineering are manufactured regularly at Bock. The 2×25-t crane system in the plant ensures reliable, safe handling and set-up of heavy parts up to 50 t – even with unwieldy dimensions.
