Shot Blasting Sa 2.5 – Large Steel Components up to 50 t
Prepare steel structures and heavy parts up to 50 t to Sa 2.5 blast quality – shot blasting in our own 25 × 7 × 6 m large-format cabin, blasting and painting from a single source in Lorch.
Reliable cleanliness grade for corrosion protection to EN ISO 12944.
Large-format components and complete welded assemblies blasted in a single setup.
2×25 t crane system and hall infrastructure for all component sizes.
Direct process handover to the identical spray booth – no sub-contractors required.
Single parts and small batches are accepted alike.
Quality management with documented surface inspection.
Shot Blasting Sa 2.5 – Process and Capacity
In shot blasting, the steel surface is mechanically cleaned and profiled by accelerated abrasive media (e.g. steel shot). Sa 2.5 (thorough blast cleaning) is the standard for corrosion protection to EN ISO 12944. The process reliably removes mill scale, rust, old paint and contamination.
The blasting cabin at Bock measures 25 × 7 × 6 m – one of the largest in the region. Heavy components, frames, beams and welded assemblies up to 50 t can be processed in full. The 2×25 t crane system enables safe handling of all component sizes.
Shot blasting is fully integrated into the manufacturing process – blasted components proceed directly to industrial painting in the same facility.
Shot blasting quality at Bock is documented in accordance with EN ISO 8501-1 and EN ISO 8503-2: blast degree and surface roughness profile are verified and measurement records are provided on request. This documentation is particularly important for components being prepared for EN ISO 12944 corrosion protection categories C3 to C5-H. After blasting, components proceed directly to the in-house industrial painting line – no external sub-contractors and no intermediate transport delays.
For components with special requirements – for example to standards for hydraulic steel structures or pressure vessels – different blasting grades such as Sa 3 (blast-cleaning to white metal) can be achieved on request. Primer coating directly after blasting is also possible.
Quality assurance is carried out in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 with full traceability. Material certificates and surface inspection records are provided on a project-specific basis and included with the delivery.

Sa 2.5 Blast Cleaning – For All Steel Fabrications
Shot blasting to Sa 2.5 is suitable for:
- Welded assemblies in steel, Hardox and fine-grain structural steel
- Machine components, base plates and structural beams
- Crane and vehicle steel fabrications
- Steel tanks and pressure vessels before coating
- Large-format frame structures and structural components
Alternative blast grades (Sa 2 or Sa 3) are available on request.
Typical Applications
Shot blasting Sa 2.5 at Bock is used for:
- Corrosion protection surface preparation to EN ISO 12944
- Adhesion surface for epoxy and zinc dust primer coatings
- Refurbishment: removal of old paint and rust
- Post-weld cleaning: removal of slag and mill scale
- Coating preparation for systems up to C5-H corrosivity class
Blasted components are immediately coated in the in-house painting facility – no sub-contractor required.
