Supplier for materials handling, ports & logistics

Materials handling needs a steel fabrication supplier who understands high loads: containers are stacked, large vessels loaded, racking loaded and unloaded in continuous operation — every load-bearing assembly absorbs impact, load cycles and changing stress. We manufacture these components as a contract manufacturer to your drawing: welded from structural steel and fine-grain steel, machined and durably coated.

Heavy-load logistics is daily practice for us: on our own site in Lorch we load components up to 50 t part weight onto heavy and special transports — we know the demands placed on handling and loading equipment from our own operation.

From flame cutting on 20 × 3.5 m (up to 200 mm) through SAW, MAG and TIG welding to CNC large-part machining, shot blasting and industrial painting, everything is produced under one roof. That shortens lead times and secures complete material traceability to EN 10204.

Materials: from S355 to wear-resistant steel

For materials handling and logistics we process structural steel S235 and S355, fine-grain structural steel up to S1100 and wear-resistant grades such as Hardox and XAR for bulk-material-carrying and heavily stressed surfaces. Over 40 grades are available from our own stock — every item with a 3.1 mill certificate to EN 10204 and complete marking through to the finished component.

Manufacturing depth remains entirely in-house: flame cutting on 20 × 3.5 m up to 200 mm, press-brake bending up to 1,000 t on hydraulic press brakes, welding to EN ISO 3834-2 and CNC machining up to 26 m. Tolerance chain and delivery dates therefore stay in one hand.

Quality for materials handling & storage technology: certified and inspected

Load-bearing welded structures for materials handling, port and storage technology are manufactured to DIN EN 1090-2 EXC3 — the highest class certified in practice — and to EN ISO 3834-2. Every assembly is traceable back to the material batch via the 3.1 mill certificate to EN 10204.

Non-destructive testing in-house

Continuous operation and load cycles tolerate no weld defects. We therefore inspect safety-relevant welds directly in production:

  • VT, PT and MT with our own inspection personnel to DIN EN ISO 9712 Level 2 — with no waiting for external inspectors.
  • Ultrasonic testing (UT) is carried out at our plant on a project basis by certified inspection personnel of our cooperation partner. Supplementary destructive tests such as tensile tests are arranged through accredited partner laboratories.

Inspection scope and documentation are defined together with you according to drawing and application — from a single record to a complete inspection report per assembly.

Frequently asked questions — materials handling & logistics

Does Bock manufacture steel fabrication for materials handling to drawing as a supplier?

Yes. As a contract manufacturer we produce container handling equipment, transport frames, crane logistics components as well as racking and storage systems to your drawing — welded to DIN EN 1090-2 EXC3, the highest class certified in practice, and machined up to 26 m.

Which materials does Bock process for materials handling and logistics?

Structural steel S235 and S355, fine-grain structural steel up to S1100 and wear-resistant steel — over 40 grades in total with a 3.1 mill certificate to EN 10204 from our own stock.

Up to what size and weight are assemblies manufactured?

Up to 50 t part weight and 26 m component length. The 25 t crane system handles the parts in production; loading onto heavy and special transports takes place directly at the Lorch plant.

How are welds on materials handling and storage technology inspected and documented?

Safety-relevant welds are inspected in-house with VT, PT and MT by our own inspection personnel to DIN EN ISO 9712 Level 2; ultrasonic testing (UT) is carried out at our plant by our cooperation partner. Documentation is produced per assembly as specified on the drawing, including material traceability to EN 10204.

Does Bock also carry out the machining of welded frames?

Yes. Welded frames and assemblies are machined on CNC gantry milling machines up to 26 m and on the CNC horizontal boring mill. Hole patterns, bearing and connection faces are produced in a single setup — this secures the dimensional accuracy of the overall structure.

Does Bock supply manufacturers of materials handling and storage technology throughout the DACH region?

Yes. From the Lorch site in the Stuttgart region we supply customers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. We load heavy assemblies onto heavy and special transports directly at our yard.
