CNC portal milling machine and XXL vertical lathe with 4,800 mm turning diameter at Bock Maschinenbau in Lorch

Your Responsibilities

  • Programming, setting up and machining large parts on the CNC vertical turning lathe (Feichter, Siemens 840D)
  • Turning pipes, rings, flanges and housings up to Ø 4,800 mm and 2,400 mm turning height
  • Turn-mill machining with driven tools in a single set-up
  • Slinging, clamping and aligning heavy parts up to 25 t with crane and clamping claws
  • Defining the machining strategy, tooling and cutting values from the drawing and the material
  • Dimensional and quality inspection of the finished workpieces

One workpiece, one set-up: on the Feichter vertical turning lathe you turn pipe shells, race rings, cable drums, large flanges and housings up to Ø 4,800 mm and 2,400 mm turning height — parts no chucking automatic can take any more, and which the crane sets down onto the rotary table. You sling them, align them, clamp them with claws, write and adjust the program on the Siemens 840D and run the cut; with driven tools, hole patterns, grooves and faced surfaces are added in the same pass. Conventional turning runs on its own machines here and is a separate role — this one is exclusively about the CNC vertical lathe.

Materials

Hardox 400 / 500

Your Profile

  • Completed training as a cutting machine operator (turning), turner or industrial mechanic
  • Experience in CNC turning, ideally vertical or large-part turning
  • Knowledge of working with the Siemens 840D control
  • Confident reading of technical drawings
  • Experience in slinging and clamping heavy components (crane licence an advantage)
  • Independent and precise way of working
  • Willingness to work a two-shift system

What awaits you with us

What you work with every day — the equipment, tasks and technology of this position.

Vertical turning up to Ø 4,800 mm

You clamp rotationally symmetric heavy parts up to 25 t and 2,400 mm in height onto the Feichter vertical lathe — one of the largest rotary tables in the region.

Turn-milling on the Siemens 840D

On the Siemens 840D you turn and mill pipes, rings, flanges and housings complete in one setup with driven tools.

Individual parts instead of a series line

No series line: you turn individual parts and small batches from batch size 1 to drawing — from common structural steel through wear-resistant Hardox to high-strength fine-grain steel S1100, no workpiece is like another.

Frequently asked questions about applying

How good does my German have to be?

Good German makes everyday work on the shop floor easier: drawings, welding plans and team coordination are all in German. It does not have to be perfect. At Bock, colleagues from many nations work side by side, some with little German — what counts is the craft. If in doubt, a short phone call is best: a conversation clears this up faster than a form.

Can I do a trial workday?

Yes. Trial work is common with us and has proven its worth: a day on the shop floor shows both sides more than a long conversation — what the work really looks like and how it fits in the team. The date is arranged individually once the application has arrived. The day serves mutual acquaintance and is not paid.

What happens after I apply?

Every application is reviewed personally here. Usually a short phone call follows, then a personal interview and, where it fits, a trial workday. Because we go through the documents thoroughly, a reply can sometimes take a little while; nothing gets lost in the process. For questions in between, a call to the extension above helps.

Will my foreign qualification be recognised?

That cannot be answered in general terms. The recognition of foreign qualifications is not decided by us but by the competent authorities, and it is always assessed case by case. For an application this is not an exclusion criterion: what counts is what someone can do and wants to do — existing certificates, work experience, the trial workday and honest interest in the job.

Which documents do I need?

A cover letter is not required. A CV and references do belong with it, though — without them an application cannot be assessed. It also helps to add a short introduction in the message field: a few sentences about experience and motivation often say more than a certificate.

Is there shift work?

Yes. Machining runs a two-shift operation: early and late shift alternate weekly. There is no night shift. Weekend work only happens by arrangement, depending on the order situation.
