Drilling and Tapping – Machine Capacity
At Bock, drilling is carried out up to Ø 90 mm – on three heavy radial drilling machines with a freely swivelling drill arm. Drilling, countersinking and reaming are performed in steel, Hardox, stainless steel and fine-grain structural steel. The swivel arm positions the spindle freely over the workpiece – enabling hole patterns even deep inside large-area components, without repositioning.
Bock cuts threads by machine up to M60: The Gamor RHG-3BR automatic tapping machine covers M2 to M48 via its automatic swivel arm; larger threads up to M60 are produced by the radial drilling machines. The reach extends up to 3,000 mm – even with tall, bulky workpieces up to 1,740 mm in height, no repositioning is required.
The radial drilling machines complement the boring mill and large-part machining. While the portal milling machines and boring mill handle the heavy cutting tasks, the radial drilling machines cover flexible single holes, hole patterns and threads on welded assemblies and large parts. The 2×25 t crane operation ensures the handling of heavy raw parts.
Drilled and threaded components are processed further directly in-house – welded, machined, blasted and painted. Contract manufacturing is carried out in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 with seamless material traceability and documented quality assurance.

Materials for Drilling and Tapping
The following materials are drilled and threaded:
- Structural steel S235, S355 – hole patterns and threads on steel assemblies
- Fine-grain structural steel S460–S1100 – high-strength connection and joining elements
- Hardox 400 / 500 – holes in wear-protection components
- Stainless steel 1.4301, 1.4571 – drilling and threads in tank and vessel construction
- Special steels to drawing and customer specification
Material certificates are provided on request or in accordance with project requirements.
Typical Applications
Drilling and tapping are used for:
- Hole patterns and mounting threads on welded large assemblies
- Flange, connection and joining holes in plant engineering and steel construction
- Threads M2 to M60 for bolted connections from precision-mechanical to large threads
- Single holes and hole patterns on machine frames and structures
- Rework and holes on purchased or customer-supplied components
Drilled and threaded components are welded, machined and surface-treated directly on site – with no external logistics between the steps. The radial drilling machines with reach up to 3,000 mm achieve hole patterns even deep inside large-area components, and threads from M2 to M60 are produced with process reliability. Drilling, countersinking, reaming and tapping are performed in steel, Hardox, stainless steel and fine-grain structural steel, including high-strength materials with adapted cutting parameters. Quality documentation and material certificates in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 are available for all order types. Contract manufacturing without minimum quantities for single parts and small batches. Customer-supplied components are drilled and threaded on request. Short transition to welding, machining and surface treatment in the same facility.
