Which materials does Bock process?
As a contract manufacturer for steel construction and special machinery, we process a broad range of steels and metals – from classic structural steel through high-strength fine-grain steel and wear-resistant Hardox to stainless steel, duplex and pressure vessel steel. Which material is used depends on your drawing, the load and the intended purpose.
An extensive material stock in common grades makes us fast and flexible: plates, sections and tubes are in stock, so we can react at short notice and cut directly from stock – without lengthy material procurement and without minimum quantities.
We prefer European quality steels with traceable origin. For special materials this is not always possible – here the origin depends on availability and your specification. For all materials used we provide material certificates to EN 10204 on request.
From cutting through forming and certified welding to CNC large-part machining and testing, the entire processing runs at one site in Lorch – one contact, seamless traceability throughout.

Structural steel
Structural and construction steel S235, S355 and S355J2+N as well as E295/E355 – the standard for steel construction and welded structures.
Fine-grained structural steel (high-strength)
High-strength, weldable fine-grained structural steel from S460 through S690QL, S890QL and S960 up to S1100QL – for lightweight, heavy-duty structures.
Wear-resistant steel
Wear-resistant steels Hardox 400/500, XAR, Dillidur, Creusabro and Brinar – for bulk-material, conveying and abrasion applications.
Stainless steel (austenitic)
Corrosion-resistant stainless steel 1.4301, 1.4307, 1.4404, 1.4541 and 1.4571 (V2A/V4A) – for plant engineering, chemical and apparatus applications.
Duplex & special materials
Duplex stainless steel 1.4462 and additional special materials on request – high strength combined with high corrosion resistance.
Pressure-vessel steel
Pressure-vessel and creep-resistant steels P265GH, P355GH, 16Mo3 and 13CrMo4-5 – for apparatus and pressure-equipment construction to AD 2000.
Material certificates, re-stamping and material testing
We document material quality and origin per project. For the materials used we provide inspection certificates 3.1 to EN 10204 – with material, heat or melt, plus sample and plate number.
Re-stamping & traceability to EN 10204
When a large plate is cut into individual parts, only the remaining plate carries the original material marking. Authorised by GSI SLV München, we transfer this marking to each individual cut part in accordance with the standard, so that every part remains clearly assigned to its certificate.
- Lamination and ultrasonic testing (UT) as well as visual (VT), dye-penetrant (PT) and magnetic-particle (MT) testing are available in-house per project through certified inspection personnel at Level 2 to DIN EN ISO 9712.
- Material tests such as tensile and notched-bar impact bending tests we carry out via a testing laboratory when required – depending on the requirement and inspection specification.
This allows material properties, internal irregularities and laminations in the material to be verified and documented – the basis for components subject to inspection.
We agree the scope of testing and documentation per project according to drawing, standard and customer specification – from a simple material certificate to a certified re-stamping declaration.

Frequently asked questions about materials
Which materials are processed at Bock?
We process structural steel (S235, S355), high-strength fine-grain steel up to S1100, wear steel (Hardox, XAR, Dillidur), austenitic stainless steel (1.4301 to 1.4571), duplex 1.4462, pressure vessel and quenched & tempered steels as well as cast – according to drawing and customer specification. Further materials are available on request.
Is a 3.1 mill certificate to EN 10204 provided?
Yes. For the materials used, inspection certificates 3.1 to EN 10204 with material, heat and sample are provided per project. When plates are cut up, the marking is transferred to every individual part by re-stamping.
What is a lamination test?
The lamination test is an ultrasonic test (UT) that detects internal material separations (laminations) in the plate. It is available in-house per project through certified inspection personnel.
Are material tests by a testing laboratory possible?
Yes. Tensile tests, notched-bar impact bending tests and further material tests are possible when required via a testing laboratory – depending on the requirement and inspection specification.
Is predominantly European steel used?
Predominantly yes – European quality steels with traceable origin are preferred. For special materials this is not always possible; the origin then depends on availability and customer specification.
Is material available from stock including cut-to-size?
Yes. Plates, sections and tubes are held in stock in common grades and cut directly by oxy-fuel, plasma or saw – a fast response without lengthy material procurement.
Can material be supplied by the customer?
Yes. Supplied material is processed just like material we procure ourselves – with the complete machinery in-house. For material provision, the associated material certificates must be enclosed.
