# Shot Blasting Sa 2.5 – Large Steel Components up to 50 t

Prepare steel structures and heavy parts up to 50 t to Sa 2.5 blast quality – shot blasting in our own 25 × 7 × 6 m large-format cabin, blasting and painting from a single source in Lorch.
Reliable cleanliness grade for corrosion protection to EN ISO 12944.
Large-format components and complete welded assemblies blasted in a single setup.
2×25 t crane system and hall infrastructure for all component sizes.
Direct process handover to the identical spray booth – no sub-contractors required.
Single parts and small batches are accepted alike.
Quality management with documented surface inspection.

## Shot Blasting Sa 2.5 – Process and Capacity

In shot blasting, the steel surface is mechanically cleaned and profiled by accelerated abrasive media – steel grit or corundum. Sa 2.5 (very thorough blast cleaning to ISO 8501-1) is the standard for corrosion protection to EN ISO 12944. The process reliably removes mill scale, rust, old paint and contamination.
The blasting cabin at Bock measures 25 × 7 × 6 m – one of the largest in the region. Heavy components, frames, beams and welded assemblies up to 50 t can be processed in full. The 2×25 t crane system enables safe handling of all component sizes.
Shot blasting is fully integrated into the manufacturing process – blasted components proceed directly to industrial painting in the same facility.
Surface preparation to Sa 2,5 creates optimal adhesion conditions for coatings and paints. The resulting roughness profile and cleanliness meet the requirements for corrosion protection systems up to corrosivity category C5 with high durability (H) to EN ISO 12944.
For components with special requirements – for example to standards for hydraulic steel structures or pressure vessels – different blasting grades such as Sa 3 (blast-cleaning to visually clean steel) can be achieved on request. Primer coating directly after blasting is also possible.
Quality assurance is carried out in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 with full traceability. Material certificates and surface inspection records are provided on a project-specific basis and included with the delivery.

## Sa 2.5 Blast Cleaning – For All Steel Fabrications

Shot blasting to Sa 2.5 is suitable for:
- Welded assemblies in steel, Hardox and fine-grain structural steel
- Machine components, base plates, structural beams and customer-supplied castings
- Crane and vehicle steel fabrications
- Steel tanks and pressure vessels before coating
- Large-format frame structures and structural components
Alternative blast grades (Sa 2 or Sa 3) are available on request.
All Services Overview

## Typical Applications

Shot blasting Sa 2.5 at Bock is used for:
- Corrosion protection surface preparation to EN ISO 12944
- Adhesion surface for epoxy and zinc dust primer coatings and for flame-spray galvanizing
- Refurbishment: removal of old paint and rust
- Post-weld cleaning: removal of slag and mill scale
- Coating preparation for systems up to C5, high durability (H)
Blasted components are coated immediately in our own painting facility – no sub-contractor required. The integrated blasting and painting facility allows an uninterrupted process chain without intermediate storage. For components with high corrosion protection requirements, Sa 2,5 blasting followed by priming and top coating can be combined in a single order. Quality documentation and surface records to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 are available for all order types. Contract service also for customer-supplied components. Blasting and painting bookable as a combined process. Individual parts and small series with no minimum quantities.

## Frequently asked questions about shot blasting

### Are blasted components painted in the same plant?

URL: https://bock-gmbh.com/en/services/shot-blasting/#faq-sandstrahlen-und-lackieren

Yes. Shot blasting is followed immediately by industrial painting in our own spray booth of the same size (25 × 7 × 6 m) – without a subcontractor and without intermediate storage. For components with high corrosion protection requirements, Sa 2.5 blasting, priming and top coating can be carried out in a single order.

### What does the blast cleaning grade Sa 2.5 mean?

URL: https://bock-gmbh.com/en/services/shot-blasting/#faq-strahlgrad-sa-2-5

Sa 2.5 is a surface preparation grade to ISO 8501-1 and denotes very thorough blast cleaning: mill scale, rust, paint residues and contamination are removed. For corrosion protection coating systems to EN ISO 12944, Sa 2.5 is the usual surface preparation.

### Are blast cleaning grades other than Sa 2.5 also possible?

URL: https://bock-gmbh.com/en/services/shot-blasting/#faq-abweichende-strahlgrade-sa-3

Yes. Different blast cleaning grades such as Sa 2 or Sa 3 can be achieved on request, for example for hydraulic steel structures or pressure vessels.

### Is blasting also carried out with corundum?

URL: https://bock-gmbh.com/en/services/shot-blasting/#faq-strahlmittel-korund

Yes. In addition to steel grit, we use corundum as a blasting abrasive. We blast stainless steel with iron-free high-grade corundum instead of steel grit, so that no iron particles remain in the surface where rust would later form. We determine which abrasive a component receives according to material and coating specification; if the drawing specifies an abrasive, it is used.

### Are single parts and customer-supplied components blasted?

URL: https://bock-gmbh.com/en/services/shot-blasting/#faq-einzelteile-beigestellte-bauteile

Yes. Shot blasting is also available as a contract service for customer-supplied components; single parts and small batches are accepted without minimum quantities.

### What documentation is supplied with shot blasting?

URL: https://bock-gmbh.com/en/services/shot-blasting/#faq-oberflaechenprotokolle-strahlen

Material certificates and surface inspection records are provided on a project basis and included with the delivery. Quality assurance is carried out in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001:2015.
