# Press Brake Operator / Plate Roller – Sheet Metal Forming (m/f/d)

Full-time · Permanent · 73547 Lorch, Baden-Württemberg · Immediate start

## About the Role

As a Press Brake Operator / Plate Roller (m/f/d), you will form heavy plate with us: you bend on press brakes up to 1,000 t and roll plates up to 120 mm thick into cylinders, cones and shells up to Ø 8,000 mm – and make the part ready for welding yourself, from flame-cutting the flat ends to tack welding. Experience on a press brake or plate roll is welcome, but it is not a requirement: career changers from metalworking are welcome too – we will train you on the machine. In 73547 Lorch, Ostalbkreis, near Schwäbisch Gmünd.

## Your Responsibilities

- Bending heavy plate on hydraulic press brakes up to 1,000 t (Weinbrenner, Scharringhausen)
- Rolling and roll bending plates into cylinders, cones and shells on 3-roll plate bending machines (Sertom, Davi, SMT-Pullmax Kumla, Wilhelmsburger)
- Flame-cutting the flat ends – the unbent straight section at the leading and trailing end of the plate – with the cutting carriage on the guide rail
- Flame-cutting weld bevels on plate edges and rolled parts
- Tack welding the rolled shell sections and minor welding work
- Setting up and tooling plate rolls and press brakes to drawing, compensating for springback
- Slinging and moving plates and components with the overhead crane
- Dimensional and quality inspection of the formed parts
15 industries
What goes through the rolls and under the press brake here are components from our own production: rolled cylinder shells, thick-walled rings, press-braked cones – for vessels, pipes and steel structures up to 50 t. Every part comes with its own drawing, its own radius and its own material, and you set up the machine anew for each one.

## Your Profile

- Experience as a press brake operator, plate roller, sheet metal former or metalworker – without prior experience we will train you
- Knowledge of press brakes or plate bending machines is an advantage
- Basic skills in tack welding or welding and in flame cutting are an advantage
- Proficient in reading bending and manufacturing drawings
- Crane licence – or the willingness to obtain it with us
- Independent and precise working approach

## What awaits you with us

What you work with every day — the equipment, tasks and technology of this position.

### Roll bending up to Ø 8,000 mm

You roll heavy plates up to 120 mm thick into cylinders, cones and shells — on one of four heavy 3-roll plate bending machines (Sertom up to Ø 8,000 mm, plus Davi, SMT-Pullmax Kumla and Wilhelmsburger).

### Press braking up to 1,000 t pressing force

On two hydraulic press brakes — up to 1,000 t (Weinbrenner) over a 6,100 mm working width — you cold-bend large plates without a heat-affected zone and with homogeneous base material.

### From plate to weld-ready part

Flame-cutting the flat ends, cutting weld bevels, tack welding — the formed part leaves your station ready for welding. That includes compensating for the springback of Hardox and fine-grain structural steel and hitting tight radii and tolerances.

## Frequently asked questions about applying

### How good does my German have to be?

URL: https://bock-gmbh.com/en/careers/plate-roller-press-brake-lorch/#bewerbung-faq-deutsch

Good German makes everyday work on the shop floor easier: drawings, welding plans and team coordination are all in German. It does not have to be perfect. At Bock, colleagues from many nations work side by side, some with little German — what counts is the craft. If in doubt, a short phone call is best: a conversation clears this up faster than a form.

### Can I do a trial workday?

URL: https://bock-gmbh.com/en/careers/plate-roller-press-brake-lorch/#bewerbung-faq-probe

Yes. Trial work is common with us and has proven its worth: a day on the shop floor shows both sides more than a long conversation — what the work really looks like and how it fits in the team. The date is arranged individually once the application has arrived. The day serves mutual acquaintance and is not paid.

### What happens after I apply?

URL: https://bock-gmbh.com/en/careers/plate-roller-press-brake-lorch/#bewerbung-faq-ablauf

Every application is reviewed personally here. A first reply normally comes within two weeks. Usually a short phone call follows, then a personal interview and, where it fits, a trial workday. For questions in between, a call to the extension above helps.

### Will my foreign qualification be recognised?

URL: https://bock-gmbh.com/en/careers/plate-roller-press-brake-lorch/#bewerbung-faq-abschluss

That cannot be answered in general terms. The recognition of foreign qualifications is not decided by us but by the competent authorities, and it is always assessed case by case. For an application this is not an exclusion criterion: what counts is what someone can do and wants to do — existing certificates, work experience, the trial workday and honest interest in the job.

### Which documents do I need?

URL: https://bock-gmbh.com/en/careers/plate-roller-press-brake-lorch/#bewerbung-faq-unterlagen

A cover letter is not required. A CV and references do belong with it, though — without them an application cannot be assessed. It also helps to add a short introduction in the message field: a few sentences about experience and motivation often say more than a certificate.
